I burned my finger taking out some food from the oven and immediately I put cold water on it and ice cubes. Now I have a blister, what should I do? Should I just leave it alone to heal?

A cake or dessert reception is just that, cake or desserts. Appetizers and sandwiches are neither so why do some people expect those or strongly suggest that you have them when you say you want to serve just cake or desserts which are perfectly appropriate on their own at non-meal times. That would be like saying you want to have an Italian menu and someone insisting that you have tacos or something else completely non-related to round out the meal that doesn't even go with the menu you have planned.
For what it's worth, I'm not having this particular issue myself but I can't help but wonder when I read or hear other comments from folks who insist that you can't have just desserts or cake at any time but that you have to have other stuff with it. No you don't.
